Interview by James Kent
Self-described "experiential journalist" Rak Razam is a busy man: Two wives, two kids, and two new entheogenic books to promote. Editor of "The Journeybook: Travels on the Frontiers of Consciousness" and author of "Aya: A Shamanic Odyssey", Razam has his finger on the pulse of the Australian entheo scene and the global awakening. He graciously took the time to answer our questions for this exclusive DoseNation interview.

REALITY SANDWICH EXCERPT FROM THE JOURNEYBOOK
18/5/09
Phil's sitting on a bed in a crashpad somewhere in the UK about to smoke Salvia Divinorum, an ancient Mazatec hallucinogenic herb. He's a gangly lad in his 20s with shoulder-length dark hair, dressed in blue jeans and a dark t-shirt. As his friend hands him the bong he bites his lip in anticipation of this strange new drug he's about to be filmed taking, which will later be posted on YouTube and broadcast to the world.
The background music is "Over The Line" by The Crystal Method from the Tweekend album, a chilled favourite of the salvia set. Phil's friend lights the bong -- it's a 5x dose, not a massive hit but a decent sized pinch. Smoke curls up the chamber. Phil coughs, quickly holds his nose to stop any smoke escaping, then leans back against the wall as the effects start to come on. Within seconds he's in another world. A smile breaks across his face and he keeps reaching forward like he's grasping for something interdimensionally, trying to cut and open a door in the air with his hands.

PRESS REVIEW: REALITY SANDWICH (www.realitysandwich.com)
23/04/09
by Michel Anderson
From the world's reaction to America's pot-smoking gold-medalist Michael Phelps to Johns Hopkins well-received psilocybin research with cancer patients— enthogens have been getting a lot of press these days.
To add to the much welcomed media hype, the Australian-based Undergrowth art collective is offering the world a beautifully illustrated trip through some of the most recent findings in psychedelic research in their new release The Journeybook. Chock-full of simulating content, the book offers "a collection of tales of altered states, essays, history and manifesto for psychedelic culture in the 21st century. It covers the modern usage of sacramental plants and offers insights into traditional and contemporary shamanism, as well as analysis of the current state of global psychedelic culture and its place in a sustainable future."

PRESS REVIEW: THE ECHO NEWSPAPER (Byron Shire)
Storming heaven again
Written by David Lovejoy
Tuesday, 07 April 2009
The Journeybook, edited by Rak Razam, published by Undergrowth Inc.
You are either going to hate this book, or love it. It collects together many experiences that people have had on the frontiers of consciousness, many strands of the history of religious drug-use, much that is full of insight, only a little that is dull, and weaves all this material together with attractive artwork and elegant design: a coffee table book for the interior voyager.
The editor, Mullumbimby resident Rak Razam, has anthologised essays of leading theorists like Daniel Pinchbeck and Terence McKenna, together with familiar passages from trailblazers like Aldous Huxley and Ken Kesey.
